چکیده

Apis dorsata is known as a forest bee that very productive in producing honey. These bees can make nest combs only by relying on tree branches or branches. This study aims to identify the type of plant where nests natural Lalang Village, Meliau District, Sanggau Regency. research was conducted using survey method through interviews with respondents and site surveys measure height, diameter, branch-free stems species nest. The data obtained further analyzed results are presented form tables graphs. our found there were 16 plants belonging 8 families beehives. family names these Dipterocarpaceae (Anisoptera marginata, Shorea laevis, Dryobalanops lavevis, beccarii, Anisoptera megistocarpa, parvifolia, leprosula), Fabaceae (Inga sp, Millettia borneensis, Koompassia excelsa), Apocaceae (Alstonia pneumatophora), Datiscaceae (Octomeles sumatrana), Lauraceae (Litsea sp), Malvaceae (Pterocymbium tubulatum), Moraceae (Artocarpus sp). dominant Dipterocarpaceae. total height honeycomb trees most (75%) Village ranging from ±65-90 m, 10 sympodial branching (62.5%), 68.75% trunk diameter ranged 50-159 cm.

The Sex Determination Gene Shows No Founder Effect in the Giant Honey Bee, Apis dorsata

BACKGROUND All honey bee species (Apis spp) share the same sex determination mechanism using the complementary sex determination (csd) gene. Only individuals heterogeneous at the csd allele develop into females, and the homozygous develop into diploid males, which do not survive. The honeybees are therefore under selection pressure to generate new csd alleles. Previous studies have shown that t...

Physicochemical and antioxidant properties of Malaysian honeys produced by Apis cerana, Apis dorsata and Apis mellifera

BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to evaluate the physicochemical and antioxidant properties of Malaysian monofloral honey samples-acacia, pineapple and borneo honey-and compare them with tualang honey. Acacia and pineapple honey are produced by Apis mellifera bees while borneo and tualang honey are produced by Apis cerana and Apis dorsata bees, respectively. METHODS The physical pa...

Properties and Antimicrobial Activity of Apis Dorsata Honey from Thailand

Objectives: For Apis dorsata honey, the basic properties, namely the pH, and the total proline, protein and invert sugar contents, were determined. For proteins, the mass weight and partial amino acid sequence of the three major proteins were assayed and homologs screened for. A bioassay for antimicrobial activity was also performed. Methodology: Proline content and the percentage of invert sug...

Intraspecific Aggression in Giant Honey Bees (Apis dorsata)

We investigated intraspecific aggression in experimental nests (expN₁, expN₂) of the giant honey bee Apis dorsata in Chitwan (Nepal), focusing on interactions between surface bees and two other groups of bees approaching the nest: (1) homing "nestmate" foragers landing on the bee curtain remained unmolested by guards; and (2) supposed "non-nestmate" bees, which were identified by their erratic ...

Effects of natural and synthetic alarm pheromone and individual pheromone components on foraging behavior of the giant Asian honey bee, Apis dorsata.

Social pollinators such as honey bees face attacks from predators not only at the nest, but also during foraging. Pollinating honey bees can therefore release alarm pheromones that deter conspecifics from visiting dangerous inflorescences. However, the effect of alarm pheromone and its chemical components upon bee avoidance of dangerous food sources remains unclear. We tested the responses of g...
